John Rufus Fowler, 89 of Sunset, TX, passed away Thursday, December 15th, 2022 in Decatur, TX.
Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20th, at the Old Country Church in Bowie, TX, with Rev. Glenn Waldon officiating.
Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery in Sunset.
John was born July 17, 1933 in Broken Bow, OK to Rufus and Mary Fowler. On December 24, 1953, John married Barbara Jaunell Blaylock in Fort Worth, TX. After serving in the United States Navy, he worked for the City of Fort Worth for 28 years. John enjoyed fishing, wildlife and traveling. He was a member of the Sunset First United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Fowler and Mary Fowler-Overton, wife, Barbara Jaunell Fowler, sister, Lottie Thedford, and grandson, Timothy Fowler.
John is survived by his children, Neal Fowler and wife Maggie of Bowie, Gayla Johnson and husband Gary of Sunset, Johnny Fowler and wife Shirley of Sunset, Randy Fowler and wife Stella of Sunset, and Nicholas Parker of Sunset; 6 grandchildren, Jeremy Rutherford, John Fowler, Mindy McMurrey, B.J. Fowler, Crystal Carroll, and Christie Martin; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Sue Zebick, Retha Toomer, and Lois Coon; and numerous nephews and nieces.
