Joy Irene was born on January 1, 1954, to John Ilos Carpenter and Hazel Lee Carpenter. She and her twin sister, Jean Francene, were the first twin girls born in the United States that year.
Joy held many jobs throughout her life, and in each one her servant’s heart was evident. She worked in a school cafeteria while her children were young and later on an assembly line for Motorola in Fort Worth, Texas. After that job ended, she returned to school, became a registered nurse, and served in hospitals, nursing homes, home health, and hospice, touching countless lives.
Teaching others was one of Joy’s greatest passions. She trained CNAs and helped them earn their certifications. She also cared deeply for the young people of her community and volunteered for many years as a youth leader at First Baptist Church of Sunset. After retiring from nursing, she continued serving as a children’s Sunday School teacher in Hemphill, Texas.
Joy will be remembered as a loving mother and caring grandmother. Her faith in the Lord was evident in her life, and her bright spirit touched everyone who knew her.
She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hazel Carpenter.
Joy is survived by her husband, Louis Boudreaux; her two children, Brad Cannon of Sunset Texas and Laura McCarn, and Laura’s husband, Rodney McCarn of Decatur Texas; and her grandchildren, Ryan and Laney McCarn
She is also survived by her sister, Jean Carpenter of Haslet, Texas; her nieces, Parissa Zargarnian and Tamara Ryan, and Tamara’s husband, Justin Ryan; and her great-nieces and great-nephew, Andre Zargarnian, Joslynn Ryan, and Alexander Ryan.
