Lawrence “John” Schilinski of Bowie, Texas, stepped into heaven Tuesday, June 30, 2026. John was born in Michigan, August 20, 1951, to Lawrence Schilinski and Nancy Read Schilinski. He later moved to California and entered the U.S. Army to serve on a six-man Recon Team and as a Doorgunner during the Vietnam War. John loved his country with all his heart and was awarded a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his combat service.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 14th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the White Family Funeral Home located in Bowie.
Graveside services will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15th at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.
A memorial service will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16thth at the Rock Church in Bridgeport.
His travels took him to Texas, Florida, Colorado, Iowa and back to Texas. John was a retired firefighter, a Gospel singer, an expert marksman, an avid hunter and was most proud of his family. He often ended slightly heated discussions with his wife by saying “just love me!” And she did.
John is preceded in death by his father and his mother. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Cox Schilinski, his son, Jacob John Schilinski (Holly) and bonus children Wendy (Lynton), Jill (Casey), Coy (Sarah) and Carrie, and a passel of grandchildren (Joshua, Seth, Jude, Jordan, Hunter, Trace, Coby, Jaycee, Hayden, Carah and Elena) and six great grandchildren.

Box 291307, Kerrville, TX 78029-1307 or CTEN.org He and Holly serve 52 missionary families as Pastoral Care in Africa and manage an orphanage in Cameroon through CTEN of Killeen TX.
