Louis Robert McCall, a decorated veteran, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and beloved Boy Scouts of America troop leader and Eagle Scout leader, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on June 1st, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on November 4, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Louis’s life was defined by honor, service, and a deep commitment to family and community. His extraordinary military career began when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he found a sense of purpose and camaraderie that would stay with him throughout his life. He later served in the U.S. Army and ultimately retired from the U.S. Air Force, but it was always the Marine Corps that held his heart.
Louis served with distinction during the Korean War, earning the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat. His sacrifice and dedication to his country were matched only by his love for his family and community.
During the Vietnam War, while stationed overseas, Louis’s deep commitment to mentoring youth led him to become involved with the Boy Scouts of Thailand. He spent several years volunteering with the organization, sharing the principles of Scouting with boys from different cultures and guiding them toward personal growth, leadership, and responsibility. His work abroad, in addition to his service in the military, further cemented his legacy as a devoted mentor and leader.
After retiring from the military, Louis continued to serve his community as a deputy sheriff in El Paso, where he worked diligently to protect and serve the people of his area. His sense of duty never wavered, and his contributions left a lasting impact.
On May 11, 1956, Louis married the love of his life, Barbara, and together they raised four children who grew up with the values Louis held dear. His passion for guiding the next generation led him to become a Boy Scouts of America troop leader, and he took great pride in mentoring young boys and instilling in them the values of honor, responsibility, and service. As a dedicated Eagle Scout leader, he helped guide countless young men toward achieving the highest rank in Scouting, a role that was central to his life.
In addition to his many accomplishments, Louis was proud to be a participant in the Honor Flight Program, a nationwide initiative that takes veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifices. It was a deeply moving experience for him, and he cherished the opportunity to share those memories with fellow veterans and his family.
Louis was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, always leading by example and showing his family the strength that comes from serving both one’s country and one’s loved ones. In his later years, he remained active in veterans' organizations, especially those tied to the Marine Corps, and continued to mentor young people, offering wisdom and guidance to all who crossed his path.
Louis is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, his son, Dennis, and his great-grandson, Shawn. He is survived by his children, Peggy (Wade), Bonnie (Cliff), and Barbara (Luke); and his daughter-in-law, Kim, wife of his late son Dennis. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Stephanie (Terrence), Tomica, Heather (Joe), Christopher, Jason, Sara (CJ) and Savannah, his great-grandchildren: Alexander, Corey (Aris), Christian, Michael, Emily, and Keith, and his great-great-grandchildren: Emilio, Ezekiel, and Eden, who will forever cherish his memory and the values he instilled in their lives.
