Obituary For Phillip Murphy Scruggs

Phillip Murphy Scruggs, 74 of Bowie, TX, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021.

Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 20th, at the Montague County Cowboy Church in Montague, TX, with Pastor Joe Caballero officiating.

Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 19th, at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.

Phillip was born July 27, 1947 in Bowie to J.P. and Jewel (Rogers) Scruggs. As a young man, served his Country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, during the Vietnam War. On November 26, 1969, Phillip married the late Kay (Cornelison) Scruggs in Bowie. Throughout his life he worked as a pumper in the oilfield for several companies, and as a truck driver for Quality Terminal Services. He enjoyed doing yard work, and was known for his green thumb. Phillip was a devoted father and grandfather, and always loved to coach his kids in baseball.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Kay Scruggs, and brothers J.W. Scruggs, J.H. Scruggs and Monroe Scruggs.

Phillip is survived by his children Lance Scruggs and wife Lisa, Tonya Gilbert and husband Stevie, Robin Reynolds and husband Brian, and Kelly Dishman and husband Steven, all of Bowie; grandchildren Ty Scruggs, J.P. Scruggs, Emily Gilbert, Matthew Gilbert, Randi Reynolds, and Brett Reynolds; great-grandchildren Savanna Scruggs, Caysen Scruggs, Maci Scruggs, Makenzi Scruggs, Jemah Scruggs, and Benjamin Reynolds; brother James Scruggs; sisters Lena Boydston and Louise Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
