Obituary For Robert E. Lee Kennedy III

Bowie, TX – Robert E. Lee Kennedy, III, Chief Warrant Officer 3 U.S. Army, Retired, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the age of 78.

Visitation will take place from 9:00am to 11:00am on Saturday, August 2, 2025, with the funeral services following at 11:00am with Rev. Larry Kennedy officiating at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie, TX.

Following the funeral, a full military honors burial will take place at Hopewell Cemetery in Stoneburg, Texas. Family, friends, and all who wish to attend are welcome.

Bob was born December 9, 1946 in Bowie, Texas to Robert, Jr. and Ruby Kennedy of Bellevue, Texas and was baptized at the Green Tree Baptist Church in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico.

Bob graduated from New Mexico Military Institute, Georgia Military College, and the University of Maryland (Munich, Germany Campus).

During his 22 years of active-duty service, Bob served in Belgium, Germany, Central America, and the Far East. His last Overseas Assignment was the Officer in Command of the Telecommunications Facility supporting National Security Agency’s Field Station – South Korea.

Bob’s last active-duty assignment was the Officer in Command of the Streamliner Facility supporting Headquarters U.S. Army Intelligence & Security Command, Washington, DC and other dispersed Military Intelligence units located throughout the United States and Central America.

CWO3 Kennedy was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, 4th Award, Army Commendation Medal, 2nd Award, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Army Overseas Medal with 4 Device, the Good Conduct Medal, 3rd Award, and the National Defense Service Medal.

After retiring from the Army, he was the Executive Vice President, DataTel International, Seattle, Washington. Relocating to Bowie, Texas, he was the Owner/Manager of GTT Associates, a farm and ranch construction firm. He was also the Owner/Manager of 3 Bar K Farm, which was established by his family in 1892 near Bellevue, Texas.

Bob was a Life Member of the NRA; a member of the Association of the United States Army; the U.S. Army Warrant Officers Association; Communications/Electronics Officers Association; and the Retired Officers Association.

Bob married the late Teresa S. Harris of London, England, on December 16, 1972. As an exemplary Army spouse, Teresa raised their two children, Charlene and Evelyn, at various Stateside and Western Europe Army Posts. He married Gloria Scheeler of Baltimore, Maryland, on August 21, 1998.

Bob is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert, Jr & Ruby Kennedy; his cherished first wife, Teresa Kennedy; his dear sister, Ruby Lea Phillips and his lifelong best friend and military brother, John Baldwin, Sergeant First Class (SFC) U.S. Army, (Ret) with whom he shared decades of service and friendship.

Bob is survived by his Daughters, Charlene McCombs of Lake Ridge, VA, Evelyn O’Rourke and husband, Adam of Midlothian, VA; Grandchildren, Rylan McCombs, Trent O’Rourke, Tegan McCombs and Kinley O’Rourke; Ex-Wife, Gloria Kennedy of Baltimore, MD; Brothers-In-Law, Lee Roy Phillips and wife, Cindy of Bowie, TX, Peter Harris and wife, Basia of London, England, Troy Harris of Perth, Australia; Sister-In-Law, Jayne Owen and fiancé, Dave Parker of Nantwich, England, Margaret Harris of London, England; Nephews, Nathan Phillips and wife, Jamie of Bowie, TX, Roy Phillips of Bowie, TX, Ty Harris of London, England; Cousins, Tolbert Kennedy of Bellevue, Texas, Andy Curry of Farmerville, LA, James Curry of Mableville, AR and numerous cousins of the Belknap Creek Kennedy Family. Also survived by his close friends and fellow veterans, Larry Hammond, Sergeant First Class (SFC) U.S. Army, (Ret) and Marcin Jankowski, Specialist 6 (SP6) U.S. Army, (Ret), whose bond of friendship endured long after their time in service.
