Robert Vernon Younker, 82 of Bowie, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 in Decatur, Texas.
Memorial graveside services will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 7th, at Brushy Cemetery in Bowie, TX.
Robert was born May 17, 1941 in San Bernardino, CA to Vernon and Joy (Smart) Younker. He graduated high school in 1959 in Fontana, CA. In 1960, Robert married his high school sweetheart, Vivian Gatlin. He worked as a roofer from 1961 to 1990. In 1990, he moved to Joy, TX and worked for Bowie Lumber and Sutherlands. Robert was a member of the Joy Baptist Church, where he was active in teaching Sunday School.
He will be remembered as a family man, and never missing a game or event his children were involved with. He enjoyed coaching and being an umpire in baseball. Robert's family was his greatest joy and they know he loved them dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Joy Younker; in-laws, Lawrence and Freida Gatlin, 2 brothers-in-law; 2 nephews; and 1 grandson-in-law.
Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vivian Gatlin Younker; his children, Tara Carman and husband Greg of Victoria, TX, Tracie Johnson and husband Mark of Bluegrove, TX, Tessa Mitchell and husband Mickey of Argyle, TX and Robbie Younker of Bowie, TX; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; in-laws, Evelyn Mizer, Mariam Vance, and Bill and Carol Gatlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
