Obituary For Shirley Mae Woody

Shirley Mae Woody, 81 of Bowie, TX went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 8th, 2021 in Decatur, TX.

Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 12th, at Southside Baptist Church in Bowie, with Dr. Tony Rogers officiating.

Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Shirley was born September 30th, 1939 in Vernon, TX to RJ and Biddie (Williams) Woody. Aunt Shirl, as she lovingly known by all family members, loved fishing, crossword puzzles, old westerns and studying her bible.

Shirley worked for Dallas I.S.D. as a paste artist, until her retirement to care for her aging parents. She later worked at Weber Aircraft and Bowie I.S.D., where she made many friends. She was a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and had many friends. She never missed the opportunity to witness to others and share her love of Christ.

During the last few years of her life she was lovingly cared for by her nieces Lenesa Preuninger and Teresa Burns. She leaves a hole in the heart of many that is filled by the knowledge that she is rejoicing in the arms of her Savior.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ruth Henry, Charlene Robbins, and Mary Lou Berry and brother Wayne Woody.

Shirley is survived by her brother Jay Allen Woody and wife Beverly of Mineola, TX. Shirley never had any of her own children, but she mothered numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

Arrangements entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home of Bowie, TX.
