Barbara Veronica Hylton was born in Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica on January 15, 1950. An only child, she was raised by her loving family Gladys and Noel Mais and Hazel and Frank Logan. In November 1966, she moved with her family to Boston Massachusetts where she finished her high school learning. Quickly becoming popular amongst her school mates, joining the newspaper, fencing, and track clubs. In addition, she was a model doing runway shows for The Cinderella Finishing school. In 1971, while in Boston, Barbara met her future husband Dennis at a wedding when introduced by mutual friends. They married on February 16th, 1972, and moved to East Elmhurst, New York before moving to Flushing, New York later that year. In 1976, she studied Marketing at Queensboro Community College while working at Movado until 1978. During this time, they started their family with the birth of Dennis Jr. in 1972 followed by Nicole in 1979. While in New York, Barbara began her almost 30-year career with American Express in 1981 at their New York call center. During this time, she moved into many leadership roles ultimately becoming a call center manager. In 1984 she was asked to assist with the opening of the Ft. Lauderdale, FL call center where the family relocated. In 1989, she subsequently opened the Jacksonville, FL call center. During her span at American Express, she took a hiatus and worked for The University of Florida Health at Jacksonville from 1996 – 1998. After briefly living in Atlanta from 1998 – 1999, she then helped with the opening of the American Express Greensboro, N.C. call center in 2000 where she worked until 2011. Following her professional career, with the closure of the Greensboro call center, she pursued other interests including a degree in cyber security and becoming an author. Her love for reading romance novels led her to write a romance novelette entitled “I Won’t Beg for your Love “by the pseudonym R.H. Notly. She loved fashion and had countless shoes, purses, with matching attire that she would show off during her days working or at family functions. While she didn’t get to travel as much as she would like, she collected different items that represented all the places she dreamed of going, now displayed throughout the house. Barbara was called home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2022. She was preceded in death by her mother Gladys Mais, father Noel Mais, Aunt Hazel Logan, and Uncle Frank Logan. She is survived by her husband Dennis Sr., son Dennis Jr., daughter Nicole, daughter-in-law Melissa, son-in-law Marc, grand-daughters Azhaé, Makenzie, and Dilan, sisters-in-law Grace, Marcia, Dana, Faye, Veronica, Marlene, brothers-in-law Dave, Alphanso, and Mark, cousins Dorothy, Devon, Melvena, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

I didn't know cousin barbara much in life, but from the few times she came down to Florida to visit our family, I could immediately tell she was straight forward and didn't like procrastination. When she came for the funeral of her aunt Hazel Logan whom was my grandmother, she helped guide me. Years later she had shared her desire of wanting to do a novel and requested a bit of assistance to get it started, which I gladly aided with and hoped for her success. Just a couple years later, I saw her email of "I Won't beg for Your Love" by R.H Notly which was her pen name, and was once more reminded of how she remained grounded in realism with a clear path to succeed in her goals. Family and goals were important to her and despite serious encouragement she still managed to retain humor with that unique laugh of hers, I'm glad to have met you and hope we'll meet again in paradise. Your cousin, Devon Knight.
I always remembered you as loving and kind, one who loved to tell jokes, especially with stories from past experiences of our family. Barbara was independent and loved to experience new things, an avid reader and I often kept some of her reader's digest which opened me to a new world of mystery and travel. Your presence, your smile, your voice, your encouragement and love gave me strength, whether you were in person or on the phone, you were always hopeful, cheerful and strong. I hope to be with you and grandma Margie again. Your cousin Dorothy.
Dear Barbara you are much more than a sister-in-law to me. You are my sister. You were always so loving and positive. Always had an encouraging word to say to those who needed it at the time. And I can't forget your infectious laugh. Love you my Barbara and will miss you so much. I know your Spirit is with Jesus and all your loved ones that passed on before. Rest in internal Peace. Dana

I will forever hear her say to me, "Eat Something!" and "Drink your Water!" Barb, your voice will be a reminder of your contribution to our little prayer Group. A true cornerstone. Peace, Blessings and Love Miss Barb. Always, Mamie - Houston, TX.
Like a Yellow Rose of Texas. Beauty!
Barbara, we will miss you in our little prayer group, but know that you are healthy and vibrant now. I am sad we will no longer see your posts and will not experience your lively words and share in the laughter. But we have the promise that your presence is still with us in spirit. When we gather, we think about you every day. I love you and rejoice that you are in Heaven.
