Fred Lee Herring Jr. was born on May 2, 1951, to the late Beatrice North McCullough and Fred Lee Herring Sr. He was also lovingly raised by his stepfather, James McCullough. If you knew Freddie, then you knew he was going to do things his way. He was imaginative, independent, and a true free spirit. Some found him unconventional, but those who loved him knew he simply saw the world through his own lens. He wasn't one to follow the crowd or bend to expectations. Stubborn when he needed to be and untroubled by what others thought, Freddie lived authentically and without apology. He was a private man who marched to the beat of his own drum, and while he did not always see the world the way others did, he remained undeniably and unapologetically himself. That is the Freddie his family and loved ones will remember. He leaves to cherish his memory his three children: Terri Hannah, Candace Herring, and April (Tony) Jones; and one special daughter, Deidre Reeves. He is survived by his beloved older sister Ann; Sheila Holland; Felicia “Lisa” (Mark) Beard; Victor Herring; Craig McCullough; James Lewis “Ned” McCullough; Wendy; Tammy; and Debra. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome Herring. Fred's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Isaiah (Kiana) Hannah, Rolisha Hannah, Hillari Herring, Amberly Chism, Olivia Higgins, Zaria (Cortez) Terry, and Zion Herring. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Omega Higgins, Marleigh Terry, Coreigh Terry, Omaury Chism, and Santana Harris. He leaves behind a beloved aunt, Elizabeth McConnell, whose love and presence held a special place in his heart. He is also remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. There will never be another Freddie. He lived life his own way, thought his own thoughts, and walked his own path. Those who knew him may not always have understood him, but they knew he was genuine and true to himself. He leaves behind memories that are as unique as he was and a family who loved him for exactly who he was. While his presence will be deeply missed, his story will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. The man, the memories, and the unmistakable spirit of Fred Lee will never be forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.
