I remember when my family and I moved to Georgia in 1977 pastor Smith and his family helped us to get adjusted to our new surroundings. They welcomed us into the Community Church of God family .Over the years he also supported my family during the passing of my father, brother and later my mother who thought the world of pastor Smith, we all knew him as the best preacher and teacher. You all are in our prayers he will be missed. Michael and Dee Tolbert and family

I'll never forget the times when I would run into Pastor Emeritus Smith on his way into or out of the Kroger where we shop on Cascade Road. I would always say to him, "Hi Pastor Smith, I'm Elaine Veazey from Martin Street and it is so good to see you sir." He would always respond back and start our short conversations with, "It is good to be seen Elaine." (I find comfort in his passing knowing he's now being seen by the best eyes ever; God in His very presence) "Being the preacher & teacher that he was you could always count on having learned something from him before walking away. Seeing Pastor Emeritus Smith in a grocery store setting and experiencing integrity and humility at it's best was a testament to the Man of God that he was. It's those little moments like that, that I will cherish forever..." Elaine Veazey
