Derrick Orlando Anderson

Derrick Orlando Anderson- Age 64, Of Atlanta, Georgia was born to Charlie Mae (Anderson) Richards in Cartersville, GA on January 27, 1961.
In 1971, Charlie Mae and William Grant Richards, Jr. moved to Decatur, GA. Derrick attended Hooper Alexander Elementary School. Following his graduating from elementary school, he attended Columbia High School where he was active on the gymnastics team and in the marching band, where he played the trumpet and ultimately became a drum major in his senior year and graduated in 1979.
Derrick was always surrounded by music. He continued to play the trumpet and taught himself how to play the keyboard. One of his favorite groups was L.T.D. in which he was fond of the song, “Holding On” and Sly and the Family Stone, “If You Want Me to Stay”.
In 1986 he wed Glynetta M. (Stephens) and to this union, three children were born. Deetra Maria Roscharienne, DeLando Edward and Anastasia Arwilla Marie. Derrick worked for Pacific Hoe Saw and Knife Company of Decatur, GA for over ten years.
He also worked for a time with the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field and Moe’s Southwest Grill.
Derrick enjoyed visiting his family in Cartersville, GA, working on cars, playing and listening to music, fishing and playing with his children, grand-children, nieces and nephews. He was always excited to keep his grand-children and be “Papa” where there were pillow and water gun fights, tickles, plenty of laughs and Little Debbie Brownies and Moon Pies.
Derrick played an important part in the lives of his then in-laws the late Mrs. Arwilla T. Stephens and the late Rev. Glenn D. Stephens, Sr. by working as the maintenance and houseman for their rental property, assisting them with tasks around their home and being there with them until they passed in 2014 and 2018 respectfully.
He is preceded in death by his Mother, Charlie Mae Anderson Richards and his Step Father, William Grant Richards, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children Deetra Hutchins (Demetric), DeLando Anderson and Anastasia Anderson, his grand-children, Kasia Elon Anderson (Anastasia), Londyn-Marie Skye Anderson (DeLando) and Malachi James Glenn Hutchins (Deetra), his sister, Felecia Yvette (Richards) Sims (FeFe), brother, Terrance Leander (SonJay) and sister, Valerie Latrice Richards, special cousins, Merian (MeMe), Sabrina, Briana, Yolanda, Monica, and Tressa, nieces, nephews, special brother-in-law, Mr. Glenn D. Stephens, Jr., a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be held Sunday, August 17, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Willis Funeral Home 2011 Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd, Dalton, Georgia 30721. Arrangements entrusted to Willis Funeral Home.
