MS. EMMA LEE MADISON – Age 73, of Dalton, Georgia passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 at her residence. She was retired from Beaulieu of America in the accounting department after forty-two years. Ms. Madison was a member of True Gospel Pentecostal Church and was preceded in death by her mother, Mazola Whitener, father, Johnny B. Madison, stepfather, William H. Barclay, and brother, Johnny B. Madison, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Chrissy Beck of Dalton, Georgia; sisters, Ruby Dickens of Florida and Delinda Moore of Dalton; brother, Jerry (Teresa) Barclay of Arkansas; nieces, Jasmine Barclay, Jessica Barclay; nephews, Jerry “Jay” Barclay, and Christopher Beck; the Ralph Whitener Family, other cousins, relatives, and friends. Funeral Service will be held Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at True Gospel Pentecostal Church with Bishop Reuben Graham and other ministers officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. Interment, West Hill Cemetery. Dear Chrissy and Family of Emma Lee Madison,
I just recently learned of Emma's passing and wish to express my sincerest heartfelt condolences to you.
Chrissy, I believe that we met soon after I graduated college which was in 1978. I was on a road trip with my College friend Bill Ashton and we made sure to pass through Dalton to visit with Emma.
Emma was my Nanny from the time I was 7 years old (~1963) until about the time I entered high school. I also remember as a young child meeting your Great Grandmother Dolly Madison. I remember Emma telling me stories about her childhood in Piedmont, AL. Emma taught me many things -- short hand, typing, algebra, dancing, games, etc. We used to watch TV together eating Vanilla Wafer peanut butter cookie sandwiches and oranges. We especially liked Perry Mason, Mannix, and Yankees baseball. We even went to a few ball games in the Bronx at the old Yankee Stadium. On the way home we would stop at Dominic's in the Village of Westbury, NY for Italian food.
Emma was a very important part of my childhood and instilled values which hold true to this very day. Thank you Emma, we all miss you very much. My only regret is not being a better friend by staying in touch as we all got older. Thank you.
