Obituary For Genevelyn Wofford Johnson

GENEVELYN WOFFORD JOHNSON- Age 91 Of Dalton, Georgia- beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, woman of faith, and matriarch of the Wofford family, was born on September 3, 1935, in Murray County, Georgia, to the late Josephine Beck Wofford and Henry William Wofford, Sr. The youngest of fourteen children, she carried with her a deep love for her family and the legacy of generations rooted in Northwest Georgia.

A 1954 graduate of Stephens High School in Calhoun, Georgia, Genevelyn devoted her professional life to nursing and caring for others. Her distinguished career included service at Grady Memorial Hospital and Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, followed by Hamilton Memorial Hospital and Quinton Long Term Care in Dalton. She later continued her calling as a private duty nurse before retiring. Nursing was more than a career; it was a reflection of her compassionate, nurturing spirit and lifelong commitment to serving others.

A devoted Christian, Genevelyn was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board and in the Junior Missionary Society. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her devotion to Christ, her family, and her community. She was known for her strength, intelligence, discipline, wisdom, beautiful smile, and clever sense of humor. Her love, guidance, and encouragement touched people of all ages and extended far beyond her immediate family.

Above all, Genevelyn was a devoted mother who took immense pride in her children and cherished her role as the family matriarch. Her love, faith, strength, and teachings will continue through the generations.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Karen Wofford, Dionna Reynolds, and Dionne (Peter) Clark; her grandson, Kirk (Sylvia) Moore; her great-granddaughter, Zoe Isabella Moore; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her son, Thomas Randall Wofford, and other cherished family members.

Genevelyn was one of fourteen siblings, and she leaves behind a treasured family legacy shared with her brothers and sisters: Beatrice Wofford Wallace, Genevieve Wofford Kemp, Henrietta Wofford Whitener, Annie Mae Wofford O’Neal, Burley Wofford, Louise Wofford Cooper, Henry William Wofford, Jr., Howard Wofford, Rosalind Wofford O’Neal, Mary Ruth Wofford Moore, Alice Erseline Wofford Moore, Roland Ray Wofford, and James Wofford, Sr.

Genevelyn's life was a testament to the enduring power of a mother's love, the strength of family, the importance of service, and the sustaining grace of faith. The lessons she taught, the prayers she prayed, and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy is one of love, faith, compassion, and devotion—a life well lived.

Homegoing Celebration will be Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Dalton, GA 30721 with Dr. Jerry D. Jones as Eulogist. Visitation will be held Friday, October 2, 2026 from 6:00 P. M. - 7:00 P. M. at Willis Funeral Home. Interment; West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, GA.
