MRS. GLADYS ELIZABETH WHEELER – Age 101, of LaFayette, Georgia passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 23, 1917 in Walker County, Georgia to the late Mr. George Washington Salmon and Mrs. Emma Lee Brown Salmon. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of Cove Road Church of God, retired from Fortune Mills, and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert James Wheeler, Sr., son, Robert James Wheeler, Jr., and daughters, Gloria Wheeler Suttle, Mirial Wheeler Thomas, and Sara Wheeler Moton.
She is survived by her loving children, sons, George S. “Buddy” Wheeler of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Larry M. (Linda) Wheeler of Savannah, Georgia, Richard T. Wheeler of Houston, Texas, and Kenneth G. (Donna) Wheeler of Rogersville, Tennessee; daughters, Eddie L. Jefferson of Akron, Ohio and Jacqueline D. Shropshire of Atlanta, Georgia; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; nineteen great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 289 Dunwoody Road, LaFayette, Georgia, with Pastor James Brown, Pastor Rheubin M. Taylor, and other ministers officiating. Her remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Friday after 11:00 A.M. and Saturday at the church from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.
