MR. HORACE LEANDER BURSE, JR. – Age 89, of Dalton, Georgia and formerly of Detroit, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Horace was a very enjoyable and wonderful friend to all. He was born on May 4, 1936 to the late Horace Burse, Sr. and Leola Shropshire Burse. He was preceded by his wives, Genise Rice Burse and Dorcas Burse, sons, Donnell Burse, Maurice Burse, Westly Burse, Warren Burse, brothers, James Burse, Robert Burse, sisters, Theresa Davis – Edwards, and Deborah Blackwell. Mr. Horace Burse, Jr. graduated from Duffield in 1951, retired from Chrysler, Detroit Transportation as a City Bus Driver, Mohawk Carpets, and Walmart. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors are his loving family, sons and daughters, Sharon “Sherrie” Burse, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Brooks, Marilyn (Anthony) Wallace, Kenyatta (James) Burse Miles, Horace Burse, III, Craig (Stephanie) Covington, Venus (Brandon) Curtis, Demetrius (Jarvetta) Rice, and Dionne “Puddin” (Andrea) Malone; grandchildren, great grandchildren; sisters, Marcell Mayberry, Serena Burse – Carr, and Carol (Nate) Williams; devoted partner, Willamenia Covington; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and his church family.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 1:00 P. M. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 2014 Martin L. King, Jr. Blvd., Dalton, Georgia 30721 with Pastor Edward Hoggs as Eulogist. His remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Friday after 11:00 A. M. until 7:00 P. M. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan with Swanson Funeral Home of Detroit, Michigan. Local arrangements entrusted to Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, Georgia.

My condolences to the Burse family,I met Horace when he worked at Walmart,he was a very nice and classy man always dressed nice and was kind to me and others, may God's love comfort you and your family during this time of bereavement, and rest in peace Horace.
