MR. JAMES CARTER MONTGOMERY, SR. - Age 83, of LaFayette, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius Montgomery and Roberta McSears Montgomery, sister, JoAnn Montgomery, brothers, Gerry Montgomery and Julius Montgomery, Jr.; three sons, two granddaughters, and one grandson. He was a U. S. Army Veteran, retired from Roper Corporation, and was a member of the Baptist faith. Survivors are his wife of forty-two years, Gwendolyn Joyce Jackson Montgomery; three sons, Samuel Montgomery, Donald (Valerie) Lawrence, and Clifford (Susan) Jackson; three daughters, Vernetta Shropshire, Julia Griffin, and Audrey (Jerry) Bundy; daughters-in-law, Pamela Jackson, Tonya Montgomery; twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Vinson, Bessie Montgomery, Mae Pearl Jackson; brothers-in-law, William (Denise) Jackson, Cecil (Gail) Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 223 Dunwoody Road, LaFayette, GA. 30728 with Dr. Donald White as Eulogist and Rev. Rheubin M. Taylor, Pastor. His remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Tuesday after 12:00 noon until 8:00 P.M. and at the church one hour before the service.
