Obituary For James Marcus Kemp

RETIRED SGT. FIRST CLASS E-7 JAMES MARCUS KEMP – Age 64, of Calhoun, Georgia and formerly of Chatsworth, Georgia passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026. He was born on May 25, 1962 in Chatsworth, Georgia to his late parents, Willie Lee Kemp, Sr. and Katie L. Ramsey Kemp. He was a Retired Sgt. First Class E-7 Honorably Discharged from the United States Army. Mr. Kemp was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, graduate of Murray County High School, and was loved by many friends and family. He was preceded by his brothers, Samuel Kemp, Willie Kemp, Jr., and sister, Karen Josephine Kemp.

Survivors are his loving and devoted daughters, Karen Shantelle Kemp, and Kristen Kemp (Tyler) Berger; sister, Ernestine (Donald) Sumlin; brothers, Daniel Kemp, and Willie L. (Stephanie) Beck; five grandchildren,Kiabram, Kashun, Laniyah, Tyler, Charlotte; three great grandchildren; aunt, Allie Roberta (Jimmy) McClure; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 12:00 noon at the Willis Funeral Home Chapel, 2011 Martin L. King, Jr. Blvd., Dalton, GA 30721 with Bishop Claud Jones as the Eulogist. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service. His remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Wednesday. Interment, Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, Georgia with full Military Rites at 2:00 P. M. Arrangements entrusted to Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, Georgia.
