MR. JEREMIAH LEE WORD, AGE 75, - OF LaFayette, Georgia passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026 at his home.
Jeremiah L. Word was born on December 25, 1950 In Rossville, Georgia. He was the son of John and Ethel Word.
Jeremiah was educated in Rossville and graduated from Rossville High School. He also attended Walker Technical School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was employed with Wheland Foundry and Southern Railroad.
He attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ and spent time studying the word and sharing the word with others.
He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Word, mother, Ethel W. Word, sisters, Joyce Ann Joffer and Alice C. Jordan. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife, Joan Davis Word whom they enjoyed many activities and hobbies together. His lovely stepdaughter, Jeanna Mcclain, daughter, LaTrice Word and son, LaJames Word.
Survivors include five sisters, Glenda (Fred) Coleman of Fort Oglethorpe, GA, Elvira Chapman, Jacquline Jones, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Ethel Jean Word of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Linda (Grady) of Chattanooga TN,
five brothers, John (Renee) Word of Chattanooga, Nathaniel (Nadine) Word Of Curtis Bay, MD., Lyndon (MaryAnn) of Chickamauga, Ga, Patrick Word of Atlanta, Ga., Berry Ramson of Chattanooga; one aunt, Esther Mae Hutchins; eight grandchildren; a host of cousins; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday June 26, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 247 Southern Road, Chickamauga GA, 30707 with Pastor William Tramble and other Ministers officiating. The Family will receive friends an hour before the service. Interment, Chattanooga National Cemetery.
