DEACON SILAS MAURICE “FLAT” MASON, JR. – Age 72, of Dalton, Georgia, formerly of Trenton, New Jersey, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025 while surrounded by family. He was born September 10, 1953 in Trenton, New Jersey to the late Silas Maurice Mason, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Williams Mason.
Silas was educated in the Trenton Public School System and graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1971. After graduation, Silas enrolled at Mercer County Community College and later joined the United States Army where he received the honorable discharge. Upon his discharged, he worked as a welder at Hill Refrigeration Company, for the United States Postal Service, and as a driver for the Boys and Girls Club.
He was united in the bonds of holy matrimony to the former Miss Connie Edwards on November 18, 1993. After relocating to Dalton, Georgia, Silas enjoyed his retirement and spending time with his growing family.
Affectionately called “Flat”, he was introduced to the Lord at an early age. His faith grew in the Lord, and he found joy in attending church every Sunday. In February of 2019, Silas was ordained as a Deacon at Grace Fellowship Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Pat Gross. Silas was a smart, caring person, and a family man. After church and before gametime, he would reach out to family members by telephone back home.
He is now reunited with his parents, father, Silas Maurice Mason, Sr., mother, Mary “Monk” Williams Mason, sister, Marjorie Williams, and niece, Terri S. Mason. Those left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife of thirty-one years, Connie Edwards Mason of Dalton, Georgia; children, Antwon Yeager of Trenton, New Jersey, Andrea Bonds, Bayshawn (Angela) Kennebrew, and Larry (Angela) Kennebrew; grandchildren, Khadijah Kennebrew, Yusuf Kennebrew, Brishawn Kennebrew, Tijanique Thurman, Jayah Kennebrew, Sha’Asia (David) Maldonado, Kyric Jones; six great grandchildren, all of Dalton; two brothers, Terrance (Karen) Mason of Maryland and Bruce Mason of New Jersey; sister, Donna Mason-Salter of Maryland; one aunt Fornia Wilson of New Jersey; cousin/sisters, Robin (Roderick) Bailey, Jacqueline Beathea, April McMillan, and Alisa McMillan; cousin/brother, Conrad McMillan; sisters-in-law, Bertha Lee (Eddie) Cobbs of Pelham, Georgia, Carol Terry of Trenton, Donna Edwards, Rose (Otis) Holmes of Trenton; a host of other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Mountain Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 Martin L. King, Jr. Blvd., Dalton, Georgia 30721, with Dr. Jerry D. Jones, Sr., Pastor Pat Gross and other ministers officiating. His remains will lie in state at the funeral home Saturday after 11:00 A.M. Interment, West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, Georgia.
