CHIEF WILLIE JIM MITCHELL – Age 81, of Calhoun, Georgia passed away Monday, March 21, 2016 at his residence. He was a retired Police Chief of the Calhoun Police Department from 1968 until 2000. He was member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and was preceded in death by his beloved son, William Eric Mitchell, parents, John Harvey and Annie Lou Mitchell, brothers, Roosevelt, Mallory, Charlie, Clifford, and J.C. Mitchell, and sister, Annie B. Moore. He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Marsha Mitchell of Calhoun, Georgia; two sons, Jerome (Cynthia) Mitchell of Conyers, Georgia and Eddie L. Hampton of Calhoun; two daughters, Tonia (Dwight) Winters of Chatsworth, Georgia and OLita Mitchell of Calhoun; daughter-in-law, Peggy Mitchell of Dalton; two sisters, Christine (Walt) Lane and Georgia Ruth Butts; two brothers, Early Mitchell of Kentucky and John (Angie) Mitchell of New York; ten grandchildren, Tomara Mitchell, Jamal Mitchell, DeBrittany Mitchell, Alexas Mitchell, Devon (Ashley) Miller, Tevarious Washington, DJ Winters, Eric “Lil E” Mitchell, Alix Curry, and Shedtrick Witherow; eleven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Linda Watts,; brothers-in-law, Campenella Christian, Bufford Christian, and James Bowden; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 2014 Martin L. King, Jr. Blvd., Dalton, Georgia, with Rev. Erma Raymond, Rev. Chris Bonds, and other ministers officiating. His remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1:00 until 8:00 P.M. The family will receive friends on Monday at Friendship Baptist Church, 452 W. Line Street, Calhoun, Georgia, from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 P.M. Interment, West Hill Cemetery.
