Mrs. Berta Mae Hull-Smith was born on June 22, 1943 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She was the second of six children born to Mrs. Alberta Martin Hull-Moore and Mr. Frank Hull.
Sister, as she was called by her siblings and family, attended school in the Attala County Schools. She was a wonderful cook and spent her working career as a cook and professional chef in various restaurants. She enjoyed cooking for her family.
As a child, Berta Mae attended Galilee M.B. Church and later joined Greater Hope Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Elder Harvey Scott where she was baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost.
Berta Mae was united in holy matrimony to John L. Smith who preceded her in death. Sister ended her earthly pilgrimage at her home on Saturday, February 27, 2021.
In addition to her husband, Berta Mae was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward, oldest daughter, Alma Denice Lewis, both her parents, and brothers, David and Leo Hull.
Berta Mae is survived by two children: Toni (Willie) Lyons of Canton, MS and Jimmy Earl (E'Nice) Hull of Kosciusko, MS. In addition, she is survived by eleven grandchildren: Gerald and LaKendrick Carter, Benjamin and Jason Elmore, Cassidy, Jamal, and Dietrick Hull, Jahleel, Jaterrius, and Caleb Lyons, and Alisha Foster; as well as step grand-daughter: Latifah Moore and step sons: Marvin (Lashonda) Turner, Tyrone (Rhodie) Catchings, and John Smith Jr. She also leaves eight great grand-children. Sister is survived by her brothers: Thomas (Anne) Hull of Olive Branch, MS, Jim Davis (Lois) Hull of Ridgeland, MS, Willie Frank Hull of Kosciusko, MS, and her only sister, Georgia (William) Journey of Kosciusko, MS. She will be greatly missed by her close friend Mrs. Alice Faye Kimbrough. She is survived by nieces an nephews who adored her, Thomas Hull, Jr., Martin Journey, Kayla Walker, Davis Hull, Erica Journey-Williams, Terri Journey, Angela Johnson, Rene Wren, Pam Hull, Kennedy Boyd, Noah and Journey Williams, Aeliana and Jaylen Hull, Addyn, Landen, and William Parker Journey, and Jaxson Blair. Berta Mae is survived by one aunt, Louise Morris of Greenville, MS, one uncle, J.D. Martin of Canton, MS and a host of cousins and friends.
