Obituary For Bertha H. Wilder

Bertha Mae Hannah Wilder, 73, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026. She was born on November 14, 1952, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, to Herman Lee and Susie Potts Hannah. She graduated from Kosciusko High School in 1970. In 1974, she married Leonard Wilder, and the couple later relocated to Waterloo, Iowa. They divorced in 1984.

God blessed Bertha with the love and companionship of Gus Greed. Together they shared over 40 wonderful years, creating memories through shopping, cooking, traveling and cheering on their blended family. They were truly inseparable.

Bertha accepted Christ at an early age and was faithful member of St. Mark's Baptist Church, where she worshipped.

Bertha never met a stranger. She greeted everyone with a warm smile, a kind word, and an open heart. She loved hearing good news, celebrating the accomplishments of others, and never forgot a birthday, anniversary, graduation, or special occasion. If someone she loved had an important event, Bertha was there with love, encouragement, and support. Her home was always open, and her daughters' friends often gathered there because Bertha made everyone feel welcome. She loved with her whole heart and treated everyone like family.

Bertha is survived by her lifelong partner and common-law husband, Gus Greed of Waterloo, IA; three daughters, Sherronda Wilder of Sterling Heights, MI, Sherbonna Greed of Detroit, MI, and Sherranda Wilder of Waterloo, IA; bonus daughter, Kandie Smith, grandchildren, Jaqula Bell of Toledo, OH, Orlando Bell Jr. of Findlay, OH, and Jaquan Wise of Detroit, MI, and two great grandchildren, Elijah Dowdell and Carter Gowans; three sisters, Mary (John) Greenwood, Susie Edwards, and Patricia Triplett all of Kosciusko, MS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Herman Hannah Jr.
