For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course; I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7-8
Mrs. Betty Louise Johnson Gordon, was the fifth child born to James Johnson, Sr. and Johnnie Florence Fondren Johnson on March 1, 1947.
Betty was a very energetic, enthusiastic, and outgoing person. Her personality gravitated to all of those who met and knew her. She was God-fearing woman with an amazing spirit who loved the Lord and often spoke of her faith. Her smile and laughter could light up a room. As a matter of fact, she extended her love to many, if Betty could help you, she never hesitated to do so. She was a mother to many, although she bore only one child of her own, Angela, who was the apple of her eye.
At an early age, Betty accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior under the leadership of Reverend FY Clark at Travelers Rest M.B. Church. Upon moving to College Park, Georgia, Betty joined Woods Memorial Baptist Church. On her return home in 2011, Betty reinstated her membership at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church where she was very active and served in several capacities, under the leadership of Reverend Cleotis Woods.
Betty attended Tipton Street High where she was a proud Bobcat who never missed a school reunion. She served as Miss Tipton High, played in the band, and was very active in school activities. Upon graduation, she moved to Gary, Indiana where she started her career in finance and accounting.
Betty was joined in holy matrimony to Stanley Gordon in 1985. Betty and Stanley had a passion for traveling, attending the class reunions, and dancing.
She transitioned from this life on July 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, Kedith Jacobs, Jr., one sister, and four brothers.
Betty leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and devoted daughter: Angela D. Johnson, Kosciusko, MS; stepdaughter, Sherry King, MN; two brothers, John E. Please accept my condolences at the passing of Betty. I recently reconnected with Betty at the NCNW conference earlier this year and enjoyed our brief time together reminiscing about "the old days"!
