Obituary For Callie Fondren Carter

Mrs. Callie Mae Fondren Carter, affectionately known as “Callie Mae" by her family and friends, departed this life peacefully on July 6, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 8, 1946, in Mississippi to the late Jordan Lee Fondren and Hattie P. Eubanks Fondren. She was the youngest of six children.

At a young age, Callie Mae gave her life to Christ and attended Sallis Grove #1. She later united with Traveler's Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a member throughout her life.

On October 26, 1974, she married the love of her life, Calvin Carter. Together they shared 51 years of love, faith, and cherished memories.

Callie Mae dedicated many years of her life to serving others through her work in the healthcare industry before later working in factory manufacturing. She found joy in gardening, fishing, sewing, canning, listening to music, dancing, attending church, and spending time with her family. Sunday dinners with loved ones were among her greatest treasures. She was especially known for her remarkable green thumb and could grow just about any plant, but her greatest passion was cultivating beautiful flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jordan Lee Fondren and Hattie P. Eubanks Fondren; her siblings, John Wesley Fondren, Hattie Mae Fondren, Lillie Pearl Selmon (Sylvester), Charlie C. Fondren, and J.C. Fondren (Mary); her grandchild, Cortez Bowie; her great-grandchild, Alixavier Gamlin; and her beloved best friend, Louise Wingo.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted husband, Calvin Carter; five beloved children, Amy (Andrew), Haroldyn (Curtis), Madolyn (Michael), Debbie (Jessie), and Gale (Roshanda); fourteen cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Rodney (Amber), Alexus, Arreon, Dallas (Derek), Isaqueena, Roshunda, Christopher, Desiree, Victoria, Madison (LaTobian), Quinton (Quen), Bryan, and Hallee; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

It saddens me very much for the lost of Ms Callie Mae. She and my mother were great friends of many years She was always loving and kind offering me hugs and encouragement. She is the last family friend and my other Mama. I see her smile l feel her love. May Jehovah give peace to her family and friends in Jesus name l pray.
