Chief Roy Robert Williams was born July 12, 1955 in Durant, MS. He was born to the late Mr. & Mrs. Robert and Earlean Williams. His parents, Sister- Verlynette “Lynn” Williams, Brothers- William H. Flanagan and Wilbur preceded him in death. He also, had one child, Lakisha L. Gamble Brown to proceed him in death.
He was joined in Holy matrimony to Ms. Linda “Faye” Williams on March 15, 1980. they were married for 11 years. To this union one child was born. Roy and Linda truly remained friends until his untimely death. She was truly his support whenever he needed her.
He graduated from Kosciusko High School in 1974. He also attended Holmes Community College where he majored in Building Construction. His first job of employment was with Hollow Core Cabinet where he became Plant Manager. Chief Roy later worked for Mitchell Metal Products, and also was a Volunteer Fireman for Attala County. When an opening became available, he became a full-time firefighter. In later years, Chief Roy became the First African American Fire Chief for Attala County. He was well respected by his team of firefighters and the community. Upon retirement Chief Roy had served his career as a firefighter for 32 years from 1989-2021. Chief Roy said, “Being a fireman is not all fun, but you are helping people and saving lives”.
He was a member of Christian Liberty Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Marvin K. Myles, Sr. Chief Roy Robert Williams departed this life on November 14, 2023 at 2:57 p.m. He will truly be missed tremendously.
Chief Roy leaves behind to cherish his memories, his oldest daughter, Temeka Hunt, Kosciusko, MS; one son, Jeffery Gamble (Brittany), Kosciusko, MS; Six grand-daughters, Adrionna Gamble, Houston, TX; Ammaria Roundtree, Ryleigh Michelle Gamble, Reagan Ella Gamble, Ke'Mya Atterberry all of Kosciusko, MS; Jarvey Gamble of Louisville, MS; Three grandsons – Pierre Gamble, Kendrell Gamble, and Freddrick Gamble all of Kosciusko, MS; Two Sisters - Isalonia (Roosevelt) Fletcher and Margaret (Will) Winters of Kosciusko, MS; Two Brothers - Joe (kim) Williams and Alex Williams of Kosciusko, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special cousin, Miss Willie Pearl Hill who he could always count on.
