Our beloved Cora Bell Clark was born on December 26, 1929, in West, Mississippi. She was born to Dave Shipp and Estelle Logan and one of 15 siblings.
She is survived by her 2 sisters: Margaret Bailey and Lucille Lawrence; her four children: Shelley Jane McLaughlin, Joeshlyn Marie Moore, Lee Evelyn Hartzog, and Alva Clark III, 15 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces, and nephews.
In her youth, she loved her parents and her siblings. She felt she had the best parents in the world. As a child, she loved playing baseball. She looked up to her brother Fedious as he looked out for her. She loved being 16 years old, as it was her favorite age.
On July 2, 1949, Cora married Alva Clark II. He was the love of her life. They got married in her Preacher's backyard and it was a beautiful wedding. It was indeed the happiest moment of her life. Soon after they started their family and had four children. In 1955, they moved from Mississippi, to Chicago, Illinois. She and Alva were married for sixty-six years.
For the most part, Cora was a housewife and spent most of her time taking care of her children. Having her children was another happy part of her life. She was a dedicated mother. She enjoyed raising them, walking them to school, and making sure they were safe.
In 1967, she started working at St. Anne's hospital as a dietary aide. She made smoothies for diabetic patients and assisted them. She enjoyed working there and enjoyed her co-workers. In 1972, she moved to Oak Park, Illinois. She started working at Infra-Red in 1974. There, she worked on a line that prepared the sauces for airport food. She moved briefly back to Chicago and lived there for a few years. In 1978, she moved to Broadview, IL where she and Alva would live until she moved back to Mississippi, and until they both retired.
During her years in West, she got to spend some time with her family and her mother. She also reunited with her long-lost brother D.L. who had gone missing from World War II. Even though it was short-lived, she was very happy and felt that God had answered their prayers and got to enjoy the time they had left.
Cora was a kind, very generous person, and loved the Lord. She loved to cook. She cooked all kinds of food. Her family loved coming to her home every Sunday for Sunday dinner. She also continued to cook for the church during her years in Mississippi. She tithed and belonged to West Missionary Baptist Church.
On the morning of September 12, 2022, God called her home. Our beloved Cora Clark sent home to be with her heavenly family. She is reunited with her beloved Alva, her parents, and her siblings, in Heaven. She will be remembered as being a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, aunt, and great-aunt to extended family. She led a long full life and had no regrets. She was a prayer warrior and prayed for everyone that she knew, every single night. We can rest assured that she is now at peace. She will truly be missed.
