Doretha Hughes Edwards was born on April 20, 1953, to the late Madine Allen Hughes Meredith and J.C. Hughes of Attala County, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Marvin Hughes, Freddie Lee Hughes, and Will Curtis Meredith.
She accepted Christ at an early age attending Travelers Rest M.B. Church in Kosciusko, MS and later joined First Baptist M.B. Church in Kosciusko, MS. Her passion was singing in the church choir. She received her education in the Attala County School District.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Robert L. Edwards, Sr. on August 2, 1969, and to this union five children were born.
Doretha loved singing and spending time with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Teresa L. Edwards and Cynthia D. Edwards of Portland, Oregon and Tiffany L. Edwards, Robert L. Edwards, Jr., and Quintessa R. Edwards of Kosciusko, MS, her grandchildren: Jeffrey, D'Marius, Robert Lashawn, Kendrella, Kavon, Jr., Jer'Miya, Jeremiah, three great grandchildren and her sisters: Ella Lois Dotson and Wilma Jean (Lester) Winters both of Kosciusko, MS.
She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends who will truly miss her.

Doretha and l were classmates and friends. She always had a good word to share and a bright smile when we saw each other. May Jehovah give comfort in the days that come to help her family and friends cope with her loss. Remember the resurrection. Remember the New World where there will be no sickness or pain.
