Obituary For Henry Earl Wilks

Mr. Henry Earl Wilks, affectionately known as “Boogie” was born on January 19, 194, to the late Dorothy Wilks and Bean Thompson. He peacefully departed this life on May 23, 2026.

At an early age, Henry joined Traveler's Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized. He remained steadfast in his faith and was known for his love of God, his family, and his community. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life, and he sought to live with kindness, compassion, and dedication to those around him.

Henry was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He was especially known for his unwavering love and dedication to his wife of 34 years. When she became ill in 1997, Henry lovingly cared for her, ensuring she had everything she needed. He faithfully took her to church, doctor appointments, and wherever else she needed to go, demonstrating the true meaning of commitment, compassion and unconditional love.

On August 31, 1962, Henry answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. He served honorably until September 13, 1963, receiving an honorable discharge. His military service reflected the same dedication, discipline and integrity that characterized every aspect of his life.

Henry was a hardworking and dependable man who took pride in everything he did. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed maintaining his home and yard and those who knew him often remarked that there was never a blade of grass out of place. His strong work ethic, attention to detail, and caring spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Dorothy Wilks and Bean Thompson, along with his siblings and other beloved family members who welcomed him into eternal rest. Cherishing his precious memories are his children, Andre Altman, Darnell Wilks, Renee Wilks-Peoples, Michael Wilks, Marcu McGraw, Shatarus Wilks, Victoria Wilks, Florence Wilks and Emanuel Wilks. He also leaves to cherish his memory; twenty grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and dear friends who will forever treasure the love, wisdom, and memories he shared throughout his life.

Among those who held a special place in his heart were Elois, Billy Mitchell and Wayne Wilks, along with many lifelong friends and loved ones.

Although Henry has transitioned from labor to reward, his legacy of love, faithfulness, service, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
