A Time To Be Born
Herbert Michael Allen was born on June 23, 1953 to Herbert Lee and sister, Jacqueline Allen preceded him in death.
A Time To Plant
Herbert joined Christian Hope M.B. Church in the 1970's and enjoyed walking to Sunday school with his Bible. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was a God-fearing man.
A Time To Build
Herbert attended St. Sabina Elementary School and Calumet High School in Chicago, Illinois. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army where he was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
A Time For Partnership
"Herb" met Maxine Gatson on a hot summer day in the laundromat on 79th & Morgan. She saved him from bleaching his colored clothes while he was doing his laundry. From that day forward, a loving relationship evolved, and they remained inseparable for 24 years.
A Time To Reflect
Herbert worked as a Sanitation Engineer for many financial institutions including First National Bank and Chicago and Chicago Title & Trust Company. He has always been a hard worker and took pride in what he done. He was very skilled in buffing floors to shine like glass and installing dry wall. He enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and friends. He loved to dance, drink his E&J and coke, talk 'trash" and talk on the phone at all hours, day or night. Getting a phone call from Michael at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning was no surprise. He was the life of the party, and there was never a dull moment when you were around him. He spoke his mind, and you would know right away if he liked you or not.
A Time To Die
Herbert departed this life and made his transition on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 10:47 p.m. at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois.
