Obituary For James Curtis Martin

James Curtis Martin lived a life rooted in faith, love, hard work, and devotion to family. Born on May 17, 1967, to Alice Faye and Curtis D. Martin, he accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Grove #1 M.B. Church. His quiet strength, caring spirit, and determination touched everyone who knew him.

A graduate of Thomastown Attendance Center and Attala Skill Center, James Curtis worked faithfully at Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and Peco Foods. He was dependable, hardworking, and always willing to help others, making sure his family was cared for and supported.

Above all, James Curtis cherished his family. He proudly embraced the roles of father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He loved spending time with his loved ones, especially his son, grandson, bonus children, nieces, nephews and he had a special gift for making everyone feel welcomed and valued.

He found joy in simple pleasures, riding four-wheelers, hunting, fishing, cooking and working with his hands. Whether building grills and tables or repairing vehicles, he took pride in creating things that brought happiness to others. His craftmanship reflected his patient, dependable and loving nature.

James Curtis faced life's hardships with courage and faith. He overcame lymphoma in his younger years and later endured the loss of his beloved wife, Doris Winters Martin. In recent years, he battled cancer once again with remarkable strength. During this season, he found comfort and companionship with his fiancée, Sarah Buie, whose love brought renewed joy to his life.

His legacy is one of resilience, kindness, faith, and unconditional love. James Curtis will be remembered not for material things, but for the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he shared so freely.

James departed this earthly life Sunday, May 24, 2026, with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Winters Martin and his grandmother, Rosie Lee Chestnut.

He leaves to cherish his memory his fiancée, Sarah Buie; son, Lamarkus Martin; bonus children, Teris Buie, Shundarius Buie, Venus Knox, Dekorrian Knox, Katherine Knox, Ja'Neice Smith, and Stori Franklin; his parents, Alice Faye and Curtis Martin; grandson, Karsyn; sister, Gwen (Larry) LeFlore; brothers, Chris, Robbie, Travis, and Quentin (Annita) Martin; and many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

James Curtis Martin will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as a devoted family man, faithful servant, and a source of strength and love to all who knew him.
