Jessie Mae Woolie was born on April 16, 1935, to Mother Josephine McMillan of Kosciusko, Mississippi. She attended school at Mt. Moriah Community School which was located across from the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Attala County. She accepted God and joined the Mt. Moriah M.B. Church at an early age, served as usher in later years and remained a faithful member until her death on November 22, 2025. She was joined in marriage to Lenard Woolie in December 1957, and to this union was born four children; Ella J. She also maintained beautiful flowers with her signature flowers being the Begonia and the Pink Climber Rose. In later years, her health prevented her from her beloved hobby of gardening.
She was one of six children. Brothers and sisters who preceded her in death include Ruthie Mae Froster, James McMillan, Willie Ruth Foster, and Johnnie Lee McMillan all of Kosciusko, MS. Her one surviving sibling is her youngest sister Ella Mae Barksdale of Kosciusko, MS.
Miss Jessie Mae will be remembered for her strength, faith in God, strong sense of family and motherly love for her family and anyone who needed it. She never met a stranger and was not afraid to express her opinion when she felt that something was not right. Her favorite gospel song was “Children of God Keep on Marching” by the Consolers and she could be heard singing the song in her latter days leading to her homegoing. You touched both our lives over the years and your love carried onto our children. You will be missed but the memories we all have will forever keep you alive in our hearts. I can hear momma in heaven now saying "girl, you bring any snuff with you". As the Mt Moriah community is losing the last of the originals we must forever honor them in our on way and with fun memories.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
