With heavy hearts we announce the passing of John A. Green (Cottrell) on April 19, 2025, at the age of 75. John was born June 19, 1949, to the late Georgia Lee Green and John Henry Cottrell living most of his life in his birthplace, McCool, MS; he was a loving father, uncle, brother, and friend. He spent his life sharing his skills and his kind spirit with those around him. While serving in the Vietnam war he demonstrated true valor and honor and was awarded 2 purple hearts, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, etc. John also was an offshore man working offshore until his retirement, he loved to help others, whether it was mowing his town cemetery, repairing things, giving to charity, or just lending a helping hand. He was truly loved especially by those that came in contact with him and his VA nursing home care givers.
John definitely had a heart of Gold and a smile that would light up the room. He always looked out for others, sometimes giving his last. He lived for the happiness of others; he was a strong believer in his faith attending in his latter days at Mt. Pilgrim M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Charles Smith. He always put his family first. He leaves behind a legacy of a lifetime of memories that will forever be in our hearts. He was so many things to so many people but most of all he was a hero in his children's eyes.
He is survived by his children Johnnie Rose Mae King (Eddie), McCool, MS, Georgia E. Crutcher, Suni Grier (Aretha), OH, Patricia Coffee, TX his sister Dorothy Winters, TX, his brother-n-laws: Bobbie Coffee (Margarette), Billy Coffee (Frances), Amos Coffee (Marie), Gewayne Jones all of Kosciusko, MS.
He is preceded in death by his wife Rosie Mae Coffee-Green; two sisters: Mary Alice Sneed, Alice Faye Thompson; One brother, Ronnie Green Brother; Brother-n-law, Jimmie Coffee (Carolyn); he leaves nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
