Mrs. Katie Mae "Snook" Kimbrough was born on September 19, 1923 in the Fancher Hill Community in Attala Co, MS, to Jack and Hessie Sims Hubbert. Katie was the eldest of nine children. Katie attended the Fancher Hill Community School in Attala County Mississippi. While attending school she met and married Nora Kimbrough, a farmer. To this union they raised a family of 12 children: six boys and six girls. During their marriage and with a continuously growing family they also raised two of Nora's nephews (Bill Bo and Thumper Winters) as their own. Katie and Nora were both very active in the community and enjoyed raising their children, farming, canning, cooking, sewing and quilting. Following the death of her husband Nora Kimbrough, Katie found herself a single mom with the last 6 of her children still living at home. At this time, she began her work history by taking a job as a housekeeper at Attala County Nursing home. After several years of working at the nursing home she became a home health sitter where she assisted many people with the independence of staying at home. She did all this and more all while gardening to supplement her income. She was known for and yes, bragged about her gardens, her canning and her freezers always full. Katie set an example of what it was to give and give freely. There was always a seat at her table. Katie Mae Kimbrough was proceeded in death by husband Nora Kimbrough.
