Kimari Monae Skinner was born on November 15, 2007, to Kyndris Brooks and Kevin Coffey. She attended Williams-Sullivan Elementary School (Durant, MS), Armstrong Middle School (Starkville, MS), and Murrah High School (Jackson, MS) where she was a graduating senior. An honor student, Kimari had 14 academic scholarship offers before deciding to attend Alcorn State University to become a Pediatric Nurse. God called this precious flower and her unborn child Kailani Jean, home on January 30, 2026.
To know Kimari is to know that she was a character. She loved who she loved and whomever she didn't? She simply didn't. Described by close family as a people person who made friends easily, she left her mark on everyone. She was loved by many and enjoyed a life where she was known as “The Queen." In fact, her favorite quote upon entering a room was “The Queen is here!” Kimari was a hard worker who held down two jobs while attending school and maintaining her status as an honor student.
Kimari leaves to cherish her memory: her parents and stepfather, Calvin Skinner. She leaves her siblings: Kaelyn Skinner, Kenyon Levy, Jeffery Levy, Jr., Jaylin, Jacorey, and Kayden Coffey, Kaleah Robertson, Madison White, and Preston, Keilyn, and Skylar Wingard. She leaves her grandparents: Belinda and Charles Thomas, Marie and Willie Coffey, and Mae and Darrin Witt. Lastly, she leaves behind her great-grandmother, Joyce Burnside, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends, including her best friend, Adrian Brooks.
She was proceeded in death by her maternal grandfather, Kendrick Brooks, Sr. and her maternal great-grandparents, Henry and Bobbie Jean Dawson.
