Lovie Smith Latiker was born January 29, 1928 to Joe and Norma Wigley Smith in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She received her formal education at the Piney Woods School.
Lovie accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at Galilee Baptist Church. She later joined New Jerusalem M.B. Church to join her husband. In her later years she joined Damascus M.B. Church where she remained as a faithful member in the choir or wherever she was needed until her health failed.
Lovie united in Holy Matrimony with the late Bobbie Latiker, and they remained married for over 50 years until his death. This glorious union was blessed with eight children.
She learned to work hard as a child and took pride in her work. She always strived for excellence. For many years, she worked at Choctaw Maid which now is named Tyson in Carthage, MS. She loved cooking and taking care of her family. Going out to eat was something that she thoroughly enjoyed with her family. She was one who believed in sharing with others as she was unselfish and always concerned about others and their needs. She was always neat in caring for her home and believed in being fashionable in her dressing at church and in general everywhere she went. She taught her children and grandchildren to be respectful to all and to do all things decent and in order. Lastly, she taught them to live Christian lives and to treat everyone with love and to be caring and considerate always toward others.
She departed this life November 26, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Attala, Kosciusko, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norma and Joe Smith; her husband: Bobbie Latiker; two daughters: Joyce Murray and Genell Boone; one grand-daughter: Veronica Kelly; two brothers: William and Lewis Smith; Five sisters: Dorothy Smith, Hattie Cottrell, Lois Humes, Olivia Windham and Lena Singleton.
She leaves to cherish her legacy two sons: Bobby Louis Latiker, Detroit, Michigan; Joe Frank Latiker, Kosciusko, MS; Four daughters: Dorothy (Shelton) Wilder, Kosciusko, MS; Carolyn (Phil) Hutchins, Conway, MS; Patricia Kelly, Rowlett, TX; Doreen Barnes, Torrence, CA; one grand-daughter she reared: Sha-Ron (Don) Hadley, Wylie, TX; six sisters: Betty Jean Smith, Linda Boddie, Callie (James) Gibson, Ida (Leroy) Johnson, Irene Wilson and Annie Ruth Star; two brothers: Eddie Joe (Gabby) Smith, Robert (Gloria) Smith; Eighteen grandchildren, Fourteen great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
