Mother Dessie Lee Lofton Hall was born on February 11, 1927, in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, to the late Isom and Rosa Horn Lofton. She was the beloved sister to nine siblings: Rosie Lee, Chester, Gladys, James, Lenon, Ira, Agnes, Jessie Ree, and Daisy - all of whom proceeded her in death.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined Little Hope Baptist Church in Toomsuba, MS, where she remained a devoted member until her marriage to her college sweetheart, the late Melvin Hall, Sr. They later moved to Leake County MS, in 1967, where she later joined New Jerusalem M.B. Church. Her unwavering faith in God remained a guiding light throughout her life until her peaceful passing on Tuesday, May 06, 2025, and Baptist Memorial Hospital in Carthage, MS.
Mother Hall graduated from Stevenson Vocational High School in Toomsuba, MS. She later pursued higher education at Alcorn College in Lorman, Mississippi and Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs, Mississippi, when she earned her degree in Elementary Education. A dedicated educator, she served in schools across Lee County Mississippi and the Leake County School District, positively shaping young minds until her retirement in 1991.
As an active and faithful member of New Jerusalem M.B. Church in Carthage, MS, Mother Hall was known for her encouragement, wisdom, and steadfast dedication to her church family. Her counsel to “stay with the Lord and save something for a rainy day” was a reflection of the values she lived by faithfully.
She was united in marriage to the late Melvin Hall Sr., in 1950, and together they raised three loving children.
She is preceded in death by her husband and one son, Melvin Hall, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy two devoted daughters: Gloria Hall (Glenn) Duren and Dr. Shirley Hall (Harold) Nichols, both of Thomastown, MS; Her beloved nephew (whom she raised as a son), Leo Lofton of Birmingham, AL; Three grandchildren: Lakita, Glenetta, and Gerrick, all of Thomastown, MS; Ten great-grandchildren: Lashandria (whom she raised as her own), Jared, Camryn, Gabrielle, Christopher, Naima, Braylin, Jori, Anya, and Gavin; Two great- great-grandchildren: A'liyah and Jorden; one surviving brother, Abraham (Rosetta) Lofton of Angola, NY; a host of loving nieces, nephews and many other adults in the surrounding area who consider her as a mother figure.
Mother Dessie Lee Lofton Hall lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love. Her nurturing spirit, enduring strength, and godly example will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
