~The Life & Legacy of Ray Kenny Perteet~
We bow in humble submission to the will of God, who does all things well. On March 18, 2026, at 5:00 P.M., God stretched forth his hand and claimed his own, Ray Kenny Perteet at Baptist Attala Hospital in Kosciusko, Mississippi. We gather today to honor and celebrate the life of the of a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and a steadfast friend to many.
Ray was the seventh child born to the late Fred and Eddie Mae (Wilson) Perteet. He began his earthly journey on April 8, 1949, in Attala County. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers: James, Leroy, Willie Fred, Daisy Mae Woodson, and Barbara Evans.
His faith in Education
In 1960, under the leadership of Rev. R.C. Sallis, Ray confessed his belief in Christ and united with St. John Missionary Baptist Church. In his youth, he attended Jacobs Chapel School before transitioning to Long Creek Attendance Center where he graduated in 1969. Even as a young man, Ray showed his work ethic, serving as a school bus driver while still in high school.
A Life of Labor and Passion
After graduation, Ray worked faithfully in the marketplace, providing for his family through his roles at Superior Coach Deviney Construction, and Atwood Fencing. He later served with the Magnolia Tree Company until an injury involving a tractor led to his retirement.
Ray's true peace was found outdoors. Ray had a deep love for the land; he spent countless hours raising his cows and could often be seen riding his four-wheeler across the pasture to check on them. He was a proud gardener who took great joy in tending to his crops and showing off his harvest to anyone who stopped by. He loved when he was able to take nieces and nephews out on the four-wheeler to ride in the pasture and see the cows and horses. In his downtown, Ray found comfort in the simple things - especially watching his favorite Westerns and cowboy movies, stories of the same grit and strength he carried himself.
A Legacy of Love
While in high school, Ray met the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Icy Dean Joiner. They were united in holding matrimony on September the 18, 1971 and shared over 54 beautiful years of marriage. The union blessed with two children: Kevin DeVon and Igina Demetria.
His Memory Lives On
He needs to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Icy Perteet; his children, Kenny Devon Perteet and Gina Demetria Perteet of Cordova, TN; and his two beloved grandchildren, Aaron and Kennedy Perteet.
He also leaves a legacy of love to his siblings: Charles (Lanette) Perteet of Matteson, IL; Brenda Perteet Johnson of Hammond, IN; Linda Perteet (George) Torres of Inman, SC; Jeffrey (Lisa) Moore of Madison, MS; Lamar (Vanessa) Moore of Indianola, MS; and Jacqueline (Henry) Mohair of Buford, GA. He is further survived by a beloved sister-in-law, Dorothy Joiner of Sallis, MS, and two faithful brother-in-law, Bobby Evans of Dolton, IL, and Charles Woodson of Matteson, IL.
Ray will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends who were touched by his kindness and strength. Let us celebrate Ray Perteet's life, knowing he now rests in the arms of the Lord, where pain is replaced with eternal peace. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his legacy of love will forever live in our hearts.
