Deacon Roosevelt (Stoney) Harris, Jr. the second of seven children, was born November 23, 942, in Attala County to Verlener and Roosevelt (Moose) Harris, Sr. His parents, one son Travis Lamar Harris and 2nd wife Mary Alice Harris, preceded him in death.
Roosevelt Jr. was educated at Tipton Street High School, Kosciusko, MS. He was encouraged by his mother to move to Meridian, MS to seek employment. He worked at the Volkswagen Car Dealership for approximately 8 years. He met and married Cora Matthews. To this union four children were born. In 1967 he moved his family to Detroit, MI where he gained employment with the Chrysler Corporation. In later years they divorced. He worked for the Chrysler Corporation for 27 years when he was injured on the job and had to go on disability. In 1993 he retired from the Chrysler Corporation with full benefits.
He joined Second Canaan Baptist Church and was ordained a Deacon under the leadership of the late Reverend David Kelly. He also drove the church bus.
On July 17, 1993, he married Rina Louise Armstrong. On October of 1993, he took his bride and moved back home to Kosciusko, MS. They joined Mt. Zion MB Church under the leadership of Reverend James Olive. He was appointed a Deacon and severed on the Deacon Board. He drove the church bus when visiting other churches and cut the cemetery grass. He served faithfully until his health began to decline. They celebrated 32 years of marriage.
Deacon Roosevelt Jr. made his transition on December 26, 2025, at 11:43 a.m. in St. Dominic Hospital, Jackson, MS.
He leaves to cherish his memories: His wife Rina Louise Harris; two sons: Timothy James (Teresa) Harris, Roosevelt Harris III of Detroit, MI, one daughter: Marcia Genise (Dominique) Harris of Detroit, MI. One Stepson: Samuel Eugene (Tanya) Armstrong of Columbus, OH. One step granddaughter: Alize L. Armstrong of Detroit, MI. Five sisters: Ola Holliday of Meridian, MS; Bessie L. Moore, Helen R. Harris, Diane Gregory of Kosciusko, MS; Areen (Melvin) Teague of Sallis, MS, One brother: Clark (Mary) Harris of Fredonia, WI, One aunt: Bobbie Jean Owens of Tinley Park, IL: 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
