Mrs. Shirley Steen Carter Fleming was born on February 9, 1949 to Mrs. Georgia Lee Carter and the Late Lester "Pete" Carter in French Camp, MS. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, August 23, 2020. At an early age, she became a warrior for God; destined to be His faithful worker.
She joined Shady Grove M.B. Church under the training and teaching of her mom and the late Dr. Reverend Joseph McChriston, Former Pastor of over 40 years until his death. Under their teaching she became the backbone of Shady Grove and held the following positions until death: Mission President, Finance Secretary, Treasurer, Baptist Association Representative, Kitchen/Food Committee, Cleaning Crew and Program Committee.
She also worked faithfully at her husband's church, Barlow united Methodist Church. At Barlow, she taught Intermediate Sunday School class under the leadership of Superintendent E.G. Golden. She leaves fond memories to cherish with her Husband: Hubert Fleming whom she married on October 17, 1970, her Daughter: Regina S. Fleming, Son: Hubert Dontrell Fleming and her Daughter-in-Law Joi Adams Fleming, Mother: Georgia Lee Carter, Sister: Linda Gladney, Brenda Thomas, Ester Jean Ashford, Peggy Evans and Katherine Allen, Brothers: Brenda Thomas, Ester Jean Ashford, Peggy Evans and Katherine Allen, Brothers: George Willie Carter, Adolph Carter and Larry Carter. Aunts: Virgie Lee McNutt, Peggy McNutt, Annie Lou Carter and Ora Lee Carter. Uncles: Losey Carter, Ezell Carter and Johnny McNutt. Godmother: Dorothy McChriston.

Shirley and her wonderfully talented family sang at our church, French Camp Presbyterian, several times. They were such a blessing to our church and to the French Camp community! Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during their time of sorrow - esp her sweet Mama Georgie Lee Carter! Sending hugs and prayers!
