Obituary For Willie Carter

Willie Carter, age 89, was born in Choctaw County on May 4th, 1937. He peacefully passed away in Jackson at the Baptist Memorial Hospital on August 12, 2026. He lived in Kosciusko, Mississippi, most of his life surrounded by a host of friends and family. He left behind a lifetime of memories, love, and wisdom for family and friends to cherish.

Willie lived a life rooted in family, strength, and an appreciation for the simple blessings of life. Willie especially loved spending time outdoors, enjoying fishing and hunting whenever Willie had the chance. Those moments brought peace, joy, and many treasured memories.

Willie will be remembered for the steady presence, a life well lived, and the love shared with those closest to Willie. The stories, lessons, and memories Willie leaves behind will continue to be held close by family and friends.

Willie was preceded in death by his beloved companion (Sarah Ward), mother (Possie Atterberry), Father (Willie B. Carter), Sisters: Mattie Bell, Mamie Lou, Bessie Lois, Ellorie. Brothers: Eddie D., Charles Lee. He also was preceded in death by his beloved sons, Willie D. Atterberry and Dennis Atterberry. That loving memory remains a meaningful part of Willie Carter's life story.

Although Willie Carter will be deeply missed, Willie Carter's legacy of love, family, and cherished memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved Willie Carter.

Willie is survived by his daughters: Latosha Atterberry (Willie), Adrienne Manson, Deniece Ward and Teresa Ward (Norris) and bonus daughter Rokeitha Landingham; Sons: Tommy Rimmer and Ben Atterberry.

Grandchildren: Alexandra Atterberry, Laquita Stewart (Timothy), Lakeshia Rimmer, Laquitta Rimmer, Angel Ward, Darren Turner, John Ward (Ann), Jeffery Ward, Major D. Fondren, Raymond Manson (Mia), Ashley Rimmer, Aaron Manson, Anthony Manson, Antonio Stribling and Davontae Turner and many more.

Great grandchildren: Franklin Stewart, Francis Stewart, Franchez Stewart, Dondreyas Turner, Natia Ward, John Ward, Jeannette Riley, Kamarion, Javeion Ward, Jamarius Truss, Janaiya Truss, Kerionna Rimmer, Hailey Rose Jenkins and a host of others.

Great-Great Grandchildren: Nyshon Mitchell, Amarion Wilder, Miracle Manson, Elijah Wilder and many more.
