Life Journey of Willie Jean Griffin Jones
On August 4th, 1956, a beautiful baby girl, Willie Jean Griffin was born to the late Henry and Ann Griffin. She was the youngest of eleven siblings. Willie Jean was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and a devoted woman of God. She went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 4th, 2025, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, in Jackson, Mississippi.
At an early age, Willie Jean accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at Delydia Hill Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and sang in the choir for many years. For over ten years, she was in a Gospel group called “Spiritual Heart” and sang in the community at various events as well as on radio station WKROZ. Her passion was always singing for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Willie Jean attended Leake County School and Tipton High School. She worked in Attala County and Kosciusko School District for many years and was passionate about children. She lived a life of generosity, warmth, and kindness and she never met a stranger. She was loved by all that she came into contact with. She loved cooking meals, and you could find her on any given day preparing meals at her home for family and friends. On Thanksgiving Day, she was determined to cook dinner for her family.
Willie Jean married the love of her life, Hubert Jones, on September 19th, 1973. Their union for fifty-two years was a testament to unwavering love and commitment. Together, they instilled strong values and deep faith in God to their children. Four sons; Shoundell, Cornelius, Famous, and Christipher. They were blessed with two additional children: Malissa and Savaris. Her dedications to her family were evident in in her nurturing guidance and the emphasis she placed on regular church attendance.
Willie Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ann Griffin, her sisters: Metris Riley, Dean Riley, Willie Mae Welch, Bonnie Huffman, Minnie Pearl Griffin, Houston Griffin and Carl J Griffin.
Willie Jean is survived by her loving husband, Hubert Jones of Ethel, MS; her children, five sons, Shoundell Jones, Cornelius Jones, Famous Jones (Laquita), Christipher Jones, Savaris Jones and one daughter, Malissa Huffman. She was the proud grandmother of 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, sister and brother-in laws, other relatives and friends.
