Erma Lee Marshall (nee McQuirter) was born April 22, 1937, Service in Monroeville, AL. She was the third of eight children both to the late Marshall and Hattie (Wilson) McQuirter.

Erma received her formal education in the Mobile area public school system and graduated from Central High School in 1955. She received an Executive Secretary degree from Zeth School of Commerce in Altoona PA. She met the love of her life, James Edward Marshall, Sr. in Tyrone, PA. They were married on September 3, 1960. Their union was blessed with three children.
During her career, Erma was employed at Navy Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg, PA for 26 years, after which she worked for the State of Pennsylvania for 10 years. Erma was a devoted and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Steelton, PA for over 40 years. In addition to serving as a deaconess, she was a member of several auxiliary boards and women’s ministries. She was a member of the Greensboro, NC Chapter of AARP. She was also a member of the Greensboro Chapter of National Association of Federal Retired Employees.
In 2005, Erma and James relocated to Browns Summit, NC. They found a church home at Oak Ridge First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, NC. Her many interests included cooking, baking, gardening, volunteering at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, and traveling.
Erma is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James, her siblings, Luther Mary Richardson (Dewey), Scott McQuirter, and Joe McQuirter (Dorothy).
Erma is survived by her children, Heidi (Leroy) Marshall-Butler, Nicole Marshall and James Marshall, Jr. (Camilla) all of Maryland, six grandchildren, sisters Hattie Smith of Fitzgerald, GA, Reverand Glenzel Edison of Birmingham, AL, and brothers Marshall McQuirter, Jr. of Mobile, AL, and Willie (Jane) McQuirter of Santa Maria, CA.
