David Edward Ellis Jr, who was affectionately known as “Bay” or “BayBay” by family and friends, was born unto death on January 30, 1949 and born unto life January 16, 2021 to the late David E. Ellis and Mary Elizabeth Stout Ellis. He was the youngest of four children and the only boy.
David received Christ at an early age and spent his summers at Bethel and Cedine Bible Camp where he met the love of his life Dianne (Elim) Ellis at a young age. He attended school in Guilford County, graduating from the Illustrious, James B. Dudley High School, in 1967. He would later attend Guilford Technical Community College where he studied Commercial Arts. He married Dianne on April 7th 1973 and they celebrated 47 years together until his spirit was received by God. He loved his family, helping others, a talented artist who loved photography and a big Corvette man!
He worked alongside his father at Carolina Steel, moved to Burlington Industries and spent 22 years at Sherwin Williams. In concurrent with working at Sherwin Williams, he assisted his best friend as a contract postal worker. He also performed custodial work for Martin Janitorial.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings. To carry on his legacy: wife, Dianne Ellis; sister, Susan Montague of Raleigh (NC); daughter, Dwana “Dee” Ellis Greensboro (NC); son and daughter-in-law, David E. Ellis III (Tramaine) Charlotte (NC); and daughter, Kimberly McArthur; Grandsons Jaylen Siler, Cameron Couch and great granddaughter Kaylenn Siler all of Greensboro (NC), 7 sister-in-laws, 6 brother-in-laws, two very dear friends Elizabeth Logan and Dolphus Cooper III and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many adopted loved ones who also called him buddy.
His graveside service will be held 3:00PM on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 N. O'Henry Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27405. Woodard Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
My condolences to the family & close friends of David. Its been years since we knew each other back in the sixties when I worked at A&P, he worked at the steel company and rode a motorcycle. I believe he had a Honda but its been a very long time ago and that one could have been one of the other guys. In any event, I remember David as a happy and wonderful guy - May he rest in peace.
