I was saddened to hear of the passing of Don. As a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church (NZMBC) in Greensboro, NC, I thoroughly enjoyed Don's gifted, musical abilities as he blessed our worship services each Sunday for many years. In fact, for several years, I had thought he was a member of NZMBC. The last time I saw him in person was the last time he played at NZMBC before relocating back to his home state (Alabama). It was a memorable worship service, followed by a reception for him in our fellowship hall. I am grateful to have met him and to have coexisted in the same location for a while. My prayers and thoughts are with Donielle and her family at this time. (Revelation 21:4)

Words cannot express the impact that Don Smith made and had within the Greensboro community. He was an achiever that looked out for and helped everyone that he could. We have lost a great one, but I am certain Heavens Choir is smiling along with Yvonne at this time. May God Bless the family and remember many of us with the City of Greensboro are willing to help if needed. Don, we love you and thanks for your help in arranging the music for the first Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration in Greensboro with a host of City of Greensboro employees. Be Blessed and Rest In Peace! God is with you.
Our hearts are heavy as we say good night to a talented man who shared his passion for music with others. Brother Don taught us how to look beyond what our expectations were and look to God for His guidance. Farewell our Director of Music and friends. Dave and Doris Pugh Beulah Baptist Church
Extending sincere condolences to the Smith, Haygood, and Wells Memorial Church Family, When I would see Don, he would always ask how I was doing and wanted to know what I was doing. He always offered suggestions. He was a great encourager and motivator. What a life well lived and remembered. May he rest in peace.

My heart is heavy knowing that my former co-worker and friend has gained his wings. But I take solace in the knowledge that gaining his wings has freed him from any pain and suffering. Don remains one of the kindest, most authentic people I've ever known. The world is a darker place without his amazing ability to meet you and lift you up, no matter the circumstances of that meeting. I will forever remember and be grateful for all the times he encouraged and lifted me up when I was feeling discouraged and uncertain in new circumstances. I will miss him fiercely. To his family, please know that you are in my thoughts and I pray that you are blessed with a peace that is beyond our understanding during this difficult time. And to Don, rest well friend!!
My City HR Colleague..Thank you for your vision and directing "City Harmony Choir". It was instrumental in my growth and relationships with employees and citizens, and God! My condolences and Prayers for Grace and Strength are extended to your Precious Family and Village. Don Your Legacy and Love will reign in our hearts forever. Thank You My Smith Cousin
I am heartbroken to lose a friend and mentor who meant so much to me and to so many others. Don was an incredible facilitator. He was able to draw people in, build bridges across differences, and bring out the best in everyone. He had an amazing sense of humor and a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued. I learned so much from him, and I will carry those lessons with me always. I will miss him deeply.
To the family: I hope you find comfort in knowing how deeply he touched the lives of those around him. His impact lives on in all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.
My condolences to the Smith and Wells Memorial church family. Don was an amazing light that shined brightly. His memory will always be a blessing.
