On July 9 , 2022 Lucy Gyline Reed Reynolds passed away into eternal rest.
She was born in Sussex County, Virginia to the late Freddie Reed and Mamie Gilliam Reed. She was the oldest of five living children.
Her earliest education included New Hope Elementary School in Sussex, Virginia , Hugh Brown Junior High School in Washington D.C. ,and Sussex County Training School in Waverly, Virginia where she graduated with honors.
In 1946 she entered A&T College (NC A&T SU) where she received a B.S. Degree in Physical Education, Science and Health. On April 1,1948 she became a member of the Alpha Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Post graduate work continued at University of Michigan Ann Arbor and NC A&T State University where she received a Masters Degree in Education.
Her first job in 1950 was a Physical Education instructor at Lincoln Junior High School in Greensboro,NC for seven years. Along with regular dance instruction a dance troop was developed where she choreographed and staged dance recitals that were well attended and enjoyed by the community.
During the first year at Lincoln Junior High a co-worker introduced her to Lonnie Edward Reynolds ,Jr. They dated for a while and by 1952 they were married. During their marriage they were blessed with a daughter ,Michelle Marie Reynolds who was their only child. Lonnie preceded Lucy in death March 1998 after 45 years of marriage.
Lucy was honored by the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce in 1971 with the Calvin Wiley award for teaching excellence.
After 31 years of teaching in Greensboro Public Schools, she retired in 1982
Lucy was a member of Bethel A.M.E Church for many years and helped with youth activities, Sunday School, and the Louise Craig scholarship club. She was a Pearl Soror of the Beta Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. A member of the Ever Achieving Retired Teachers Club ,The North Carolina Retired School Personnel ,and the North Carolina Association of Education Inc.
She was preceded in death by both parents, and her brothers Joseph Reed and Richard Reed and Sister Marie Rose..
She leaves to treasure her memory a Loving Daughter Michelle M. Reynolds of Greensboro,NC; Sister, Essie Westbrook Peterburg ,VA; a devoted family friend whom she loved as a Son, Dr. Robert Williamson of Greensboro, NC ,and many nieces, nephews ,relatives and friends. She was a very loving and caring person with a delightful sense of humor.
We have been truly blessed by her presence and we are so grateful for the memories she leaves behind.

Ms. Lucy had been more then a customer for years. She always had a bright smile. And she was always a pleasure to see. My condolences go out to you and the family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Lucy Reynolds at Clayton Elementary School for several years. She was always positive, professional, beautifully dressed, very kind and sharing a welcoming spirit. I know you miss her very much, but treasure your memories as I will. When we see her again, the streets. Will be paved with gold and she'll be living in a mansion!
