Pastor Charlie T. Adams III fulfilled his calling and was called home on Friday, May 21, 2021, while surrounded by loved ones.
He was born July 8, 1949, in South Boston, VA. He spent his early years playing baseball, basketball, and football at Mary Bethune High School, where he was senior president and captain of the football team. His love for music would also take flight with his band instructor Johnny Davis, who would introduce Charlie to the saxophone.
After high school, he joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1968-1973. After completing his service, his love for music continued as he went on to play and sing in a band called Symbol 8. His gift would lead him to play in venues across the country.
In 1983, through his wife Yvonne Adams, God's calling would lead Charlie to attend a service at Rescue Temple #1 in Greensboro, NC, where the words of God through Mother Mable Smith would compel him to turn his life over to Christ officially.
In 1997, Charlie would be ordained into ministry by Bishop Le Roy Jackson Woodard—leading to a pastoral career that would last for more than 25 years. From a small strip mall church, he was able to powerfully bring forth the word of God and help lead the souls of many to Christ.
With the word "forgive" emblazoned on the podium of his church (Grace Family Worship Center), he was dedicated to preaching God's grace and mercy however he could and in every opportunity he was given. Even in his last words, he asked for his hands to be raised so that he could shout, "The devil is a liar!" and "God is still in control!"
If there is one thing Pastor Charlie Adams wanted to be remembered for, it would be for his will and passion for serving God regardless of the obstacles. He wanted his life to be a testament to others that may be going through tough times – that God still loves you and His grace is forever.
Charlie Adams is survived by his daughter Aiesha Adams, his son Christian Adams (Mia), his son Dexter Adams (Tiffany), his brother Thomas Adams (Flora), his sister Francis Ferguson, grandchildren Kenedy, Brandon, Londyn, Corinne, and Emory, as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and cherished friends including members of Grace Family Worship Center.
Charlie was preceded in homegoing by his wife Yvonne Adams, with whom he is now reunited in heaven. Additionally, he was preceded by his parents Charlie Adams and Florence Jackson Adams, son Marcellus Adams, sister Cora Adams, brothers Riley Adams and Trent Adams, grandfather Charlie Adams, and grandmother Rosa Jackson.
The memorial service has been entrusted to Woodard Funeral Home. A private funeral service celebrating his life will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park on Saturday, May 29th at 12 PM in Greensboro, NC. Due to COVID restrictions, attendance is limited. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Lakeview Memorial Park.
