On June 22, 1931, in the small town of Weston, Georgia, a remarkable woman Lula Mae Brown Trotter was born to the late Julie Morrison and Russell Brown. She would grow to be known to generations simply as The Matriarch—the heart, the backbone, and strength of her family. To her family, she was lovingly called “Kate”, a name that carried warmth, wisdom, and familiarity.

She was the sixth of seven children (3 brother and 3 sisters all preceding her in death), raised at Route 1, Bay 28 in Weston, Georgia, where family, faith, and hard work shaped her early years. She attended school at Mt. Leborn and Richland where she formed lifelong memories, including a cherished friendship, with her childhood best friend, Verla. Even at a young age, she demonstrated the strength, compassion, and quiet leadership that would one day earn her the title of “The Matriarch”.

On February 14, 1947—Valentine’s Day—Lula Mae married a little short man with a big personality named Riley Trotter, better known as “Pump”. Their love story carried them from Georgia to Miami, Florida, where they built a life together in Opa-locka, Fl. It was there that she laid down roots that would grow into a legacy spanning generations.

In 1972, she became a member of the 59th Street Pentecostal Church of God, under the leadership of her brother-in-law, the late Bishop Robert Thornton Jr. and beloved sister-in-law Sheppard Mother Mildred Trotter Thornton. There she served as a Missionary until elevated to the General Church Mother. Mother Trotter continued to serve faithfully and diligently under the pastoral ship of her niece, Pastor Lavern Thornton-Williamson until her health no longer allowed her to do so.

Her journey was not without hard work. She began her working years in a laundromat, doing honest labor with grace and determination. Guided by a servant’s heart she began her career in healthcare. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant and dedicated many years of faithful service to Fair Haven Nursing Home and PACE where her benevolence, patience, and kindness touched countless lives. She worked until retirement, leaving behind a legacy of service reflective of Christ’s love.
