Obituary For Carrie Irvin

Carrie Irvin, 92, of Louisville, transitioned on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at her home.

Visitation at 11-1 Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Waters Clement AME Zion Church 4641 E. Indian Trail. Funeral to follow at 1pm. Burial Petersburg-Newburg Cemetery.

Carrie Mae Irvin was born on June 23, 1931, in Nicholasville, Kentucky, to proud parents Jim and Molly Spillman. She was raised with her other siblings in a family that knew the value of being close knit and always looked out for each other.

Carrie received her education in Nicholasville School System, and graduated from high school there. Graduating from high school was not the end of her education, but it was the starting point of her being interested in continuing her education. She attended classes in Nursing that peaked her interest to become a Nurse's Assistant/Aide.

At the young age of 16 years old, Carrie married Charles Henry Taylor, from Lexington, Kentucky. To this union, thirteen children were born. Carrie worked in her family's business, and Charles was a Navy man and Brick Layer. The two of them provided a safe and loving home for their thirteen children and one "bonus" granddaughter, Tammy, who was raised as their daughter. Carrie, obviously believed in the more, the merrier, and enjoyed being around children, and they in return, delighted in being in her presence, also.

Carrie was a great cook, who could take a little of nothing, and make a feast for all of her children. She was very creative in the kitchen, and would make up tasty recipes that would make you lick your lips for more. Carrie, was not only an excellent cook, but she was a very talented seamstress.

If you wanted something to grow, just put it in the hands of Carrie. She definitely had a green thumb, and could grow anything that was in dirt. Spending time tending to flowers, was her inexpensive and free therapy. Being close to nature, was like being close to God.

A total of fourteen children in the home, did not keep Carrie from enjoying the pleasantries of life. She liked to sing, dance, sew, fish, cook and talk. She was full of life, and it filtered into everyone she met. She was a nurturer at heart, a caretaker as a passion, a provider for others, and a resourceful person for survival. She was the "one all, be all."

At an early age, Carrie accepted Christ. She continued her Christian journey at Walters Clement A.M.E. Zion Church for 45 years. It has been said that she may have been the oldest living member of the church before her passing. She was faithful to the end. Even when her health began to decline, she would listen to the service on the phone, and enjoy the company of the church members who visited her. Her faith in God never wavered or ceased. She kept the faith!
