Cecil First, Jr., 88, of Louisville, transitioned on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Baptist Health.

Visitation 10-12 Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Galatian Missionary Baptist Church 2020 Maryland Avenue, New Albany, Indiana. Funeral to follow at his church. Burial Green Meadows Cemetery.

Cecil First Jr., was born in Russellville, Kentucky to Willie Grace Payne and Cecil First Sr. on January 18th, 1936. On Saturday, July 27th, 2024 God Almighty spoke the words “Peace Be Still” and Cecil First was called home for his eternal reward.

He was baptized at an early age at Mount Zion Baptist Church by Reverend West, setting the foundation for a life of faith and service. Cecil attended Knob City High School in Russellville, Kentucky, where he formed lasting friendships and memories. His professional life included employment at Enro and a career at General Electric, from which he retired after years of dedicated service. He later found enjoyment working as a custodian at New Albany High School.

A man of strong faith, Cecil served as a deacon at Galatian Baptist Church, where he was known for his commitment to his congregation and community. Outside of his church duties, Cecil found joy in tending to his garden, nurturing both plants and relationships.

Cecil's first marriage of 45 years was blessed with three children: Sherrin Sweat, Cecil First III., (Janet) and Lynnette Rochelle Fulton (Kirt). He was also the father of Donna Burtley, and Tomika Leonard. Cecil later found companionship in his second marriage, which brought stepchildren into his loving family circle. His bonus granddaughter, Rekita, held a special place in his heart and was also a devoted caregiver.

Cecil was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, daughter, first wife and wife. He is survived by his children, stepchildren, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cecil's life was characterized by his devotion to family, faith, and hard work. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and the simple pleasures of a life well-lived. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his impact on his family and community will not be forgotten.
